Where are you now?
I know this may seem like a silly question. But it is a serious one. It is also one we should think about every day. Not where are you physically. Even though it is a valid concern usually for some. But where are we in terms of working on are our inner goals. The areas where we would like to see change. Setting goals is something we have talked on before, but for some of us it did not move much passed there. Am I right?
Some of us have goals such as overcoming anxiety, anxiousness, worry, and stress. Others have goals such as overcoming fear. Some have goals in a more financial aspect. Saving up money for a house or a car. Goals set on getting a better job. Some goals may even be to spend more time with our children during the week or weekends. Weight-loss goals, lower blood pressure goals, general health goals. Reading more, writing more, goals can go on and on.
Weeks ago, we talked about working on & bettering our lives. Setting “mini” goals to achieve to move closer and closer to achieve a big GOAL. Mini-goals are a way to start small and without overwhelming ourselves. If your big goal is to keep your house cleaner, but cleaning it all at once is “overwhelming” for this time in your life. Then a “mini-goal” for that could be to keep the sink free of dirty dishes everyday. Or to get your hampers empty before Sunday begins. These little achievements may seem simple, useless, or just flat dumb; But you know it is a start.
Saving up for a house could be as “mini” as putting five or ten dollars in a jar every payday. No it does not seem or feel like much at first. But after the jar starts to fill up and you start to see the benefit of your “discipline” pile up. Things then start to get exciting. You will want to take more steps or even an additional approach. Like selling useless items just to add that profit into the jar. That can be a second mini goal, finding things to sell.
Or on the cleaner house, once you start to wake up “underwhelmed” at the extra house work you have added to the list, because the dishes and laundry are still done. Then you can add more minis such as cleaning up the yard or organizing your desk. All of those little things can and will add up. Writing a small chore list for your children, if you haven’t already. Even just little simple things we can do daily, those mini items can still make a huge difference in the long run.
All of the mini-goals you set for yourself should lead up to a bigger goal. One you would really like to achieve. You must realize & keep in mind. The Big goal you have set IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. It is something you must work up to. Working on bits at a time everyday. No you do not have all the time in the world. But dwelling on that and sitting around depressed because we are getting nowhere towards the big dreams. Constantly thinking and feeling like we are going backwards. Those types of “anti-actions” are NOT PRODUCTIVE. The little things we can do daily to work up to them ARE what is going to keep us moving forward at a consistent rate. Without over stressing or overthinking the situations.
For some people writing a list that can be kept on the fridge or by the bed, OR BOTH; is quite effective. A list of mini-goals, then the BIG Goal in large letters at the bottom of the list. It will help keep our mind moving in a forward direction. Whether we “feel” like we are or not.
Like I have said in the past, what we feel is not something we should use to fuel our actions or decisions.
On a different side of the goals. (Going to start talking truth here, proceed with caution.) Concerning the anxiety or fear. I have talked a lot about God and about His power. I have talked about the power of prayer and the powers of the Holy Spirit. I realize not all of you believe in “that kind of stuff”. I can tell you now, we will not ever be able to overcome the hold of anxiousness, worry, stress, or fear on our own. Truth is, He is the only way to be set free from any of that. The power to do so lies in His Word. The Word is a powerful weapon against the enemy attacks. Anxiousness, worry, stress, and fear are ALL ATTACKS FROM THE ENEMY.

Unless we can learn to bring these attack to Him in prayers, and start coming against them one by one, We can never truly achieve that goal. Overcoming anxiousness has been a huge goal for me for months. I hate how it makes me “feel”. But everything I did in my own strength, left me more broken, confused, and scared then I was before. It wasn’t until I gave it to God and asked Him which goals to set before me that I was able to start achieving these mini-goals that ARE bringing me closer and closer to complete freedom from anxiousness. Praying about it one time, reading one or two verses, and trying to “just keep my head up” were not going to cure this, or or make me victorious in this battle overnight. It was through constant prayer, pursing stories and passages in the Bible, and constantly fighting. Asking Him to help me achieve this goal was the ONLY way to begin to do so. Mini-goals, consisted of prayers every day, praying for those whom I know are struggling with similar battles. Writing down verses that fit the subject and keeping them in a place to be read anytime on a moments notice. Then my most favorite mini-goal, was to keep a notebook, writing my anxiety “factor” on one side of the page, then writing the verse or promise from God that battles it. Slowly I began to realize there is a truth to conquer each “fear factor” in our lives.
He gave us tools for every situation!
Sooo, that all being said, there are always mini-goals, little steps, small achievements that can and WILL move us closer towards our goals, no matter how big they seem.
All of our goals can start somewhere. I know that 95% of people want to be at a different point in their lives. Yet not everyone knows how to get there or where to start. Prayer is a great way to start. So is writing mini-goals that pertain to a larger one. Little steps, are a great way to learn to walk. Yes?
The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
