A life of peace; What does one look like?
As you all know I have written plenty recently about blessings and about being anxious. It is really tough to not be so repetitive all the time. Yet a lot of what I end up writing I need to hear as well. I need to hear it myself but also fully understand it myself. It is for everyone! A life of peace has to start somewhere.
But fact is, PEACE is a choice we must each make within ourselves. We must choose peace. We must choose to not panic. We must choose to not “freak out”, at anything; At our children, at the stop light or even at the difficult service person at the store. We must choose to hold our peace when friends or family are making things seem impossible. We must remember all of these verses I have listed below and take each moment one at a time. I would say one day at a time. For some of us though, a whole day to focus on is still too much. Some times, some days, for some of us it is easier to focus on one moment at a time. Again, moment by moment is a concept we have covered before.
Yes I know, I have said all of that before. But I do not feel as if you all get it. I know that because I barely get it. This subject is one I have had to go back to over and over for myself as well. It is important. We have to not let ourselves live in fear. Whether it is fear for finances, for safety, for necessities, or fear of someone’s thoughts; it does not matter what type of anxiety you have. Peace of mind can be found, but where?
Now pay attention because this one will be short and sweet;
Peace can be found in the Word of God.
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? Matthew 6:26-27 NKJV
The important part of that, is you have to know what you are looking for. Well you do not HAVE to but it helps to know where to look. We need to be in prayer often and asking our creator what we need to know. Ask how to look , even ask where to look. Then start searching. Sitting in prayer does tons. But prayer with no action at all on our part, turns into a one sided relationship. We must pray for wisdom, like we have learned here before. But also to pray for understanding. The Word of God is a powerful weapon. But even with the most powerful weapon comes the responsibility of learning HOW TO USE IT!
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:31-34 NKJV
All of these little subjects we have already covered, gaining wisdom, gaining understanding, fighting anxiety, fighting fear, even just working through organizing our home and lives better; ALL OF THOSE THINGS BRING US CLOSER TO PEACE. BUT DOING THEM IN “OUR OWN POWER” INSTEAD OF “WITH GODS POWER” TAKES US NO WHERE. We end up turning in circles, still doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Guess what the definition of insanity is?
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
The way to achieve this is by choosing to ask for the Holy Spirit to come and live inside of us! Choosing to is the beginning of wisdom. Fear/reverence of God, is the beginning of wisdom. He told us that. Let Him know we believe Christ died on the Cross to save us. Once He has been asked into our hearts, everything starts to make a little more sense. Bit by bit our understanding increases tremendously. With action, with research, through prayer we can begin to understand how to get through everyday life. Through every day problems.
EVERYTHING WE WILL FACE, WE WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO FACE IT ALONE! WE WILL NO LONGER BE TRYING IN OUR OWN STRENGTH BUT WE CAN THEN LET GOD HELP FIGHT OUR BATTLES FOR US!
It is powerful. It is powerful to know who He is. It is powerful to pray. It is powerful to read the Word. It is powerful to know how to use truth everyday. It begins to bring us peace beyond our understanding. It begins to bring us through things we never thought we would make it through. This does not mean we will never have any issues, or that life will be perfect and peaceful all the time. Because there is still an enemy in the world who is still here to steal, to kill, and to destroy everything we have and want. But his efforts become weak once we learn to fight back. It is awesome, on of the best things ever is visually seeing a victory in areas in our lives we never thought possible.
So to answer the question, What does a life of peace look like? Well it does not always look like much on the outside. BUT sometimes peace makes such a strong effect on us that everything we do looks and seems effortless. That is because once we ask God to help us through and with everything. Things start to change. Everything in our inner self becomes new. We become a “new creation”. We do not need to fear, we do not need to worry or stress, we do not need to “freak out” anymore. It is not our in our own strength, but Christ’s strength within us that we can do ALL things through. A life of peace, looks like the one God blessed us with. The only way to find out though is by having a relationship with Him. Stop worrying about what someone else might think. Stop worrying about what people say you should and should not do. Start asking for guidance, wisdom, peace, and He will show us how to understand.
I am not perfect, but I am a new creation. I know Him, I know He wants better for me and my family. I also know the peace He is helping me receive is open and available for everyone who asks Him. Ask and you will receive. Our God is not a respecter of persons, meaning He loves Us ALL, He has a plan for us ALL, and He wants better for us all.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 NKJV
(Those of you who do not fully understand who the Holy Spirit is, look up some verses, even google some, the bible Gateway website is awesome, and very helpful. But we will cover whom He is much better in a later article. Also the Armor of God, I know I have covered it slightly and I will cover it again in more depth soon.)
Love you all! Have an awesome end of your week. I pray you all Find Him and find peace.
